Achieving New Years Goals

12/31/2016

It's that time of year where we all tend to sit down think about our past year (see you later 2016) and start setting those lofty resolutions for the upcoming year (hello 2017!). It is great to set goals, even lofty ones, but it is even better to set yourself up for success.

Setting a New Years resolution can often end up being us writing down a set of hopes for the year and this is a great place to start, however hopes and goals are no good without an action plan to help you meet them.

4 Steps to Setting and Acheiving Goals:
  1. Start by defining those goals. What are you hoping to achieve this year? Why do you want this?
  2. Once you have figured out what you want and more importantly why you want it, it is time to sit down and decide - what are you willing to do to achieve these goals? It is easy to say "I want to lose weight because I want to be healthy". It is a bigger exercise in self reflection to write out what you will need to do daily, weekly and monthly in order to achieve that end goal.
  3. Now this part is key, come back to your goals every single week! Pick one day and on that day you sit down, look at your goals and define your action plan for the week. So if your goals are to say, eat more vegetables your action plan for one week may be to have at least two servings of veg at lunch and dinner. You can start off small and build your way up to a whole day based on vegetables and totally void of meat...imagine!
  4. Remember to challenge yourself. I once read that "we can't jump higher than we can imagine" so keep pushing yourself and remind yourself that consistency, positive self talk and good old hustle is what will help you to achieve those goals.
Now get after it, enjoy yourself and Happy New Year everyone!
